Dead bacteria can be just as infectious as live bacteria.
She scrubbed thoroughly. She worked tirelessly. She later investigates.
There are still filthy, infectious bacteria on the piece of clothing.
In reality, there are three steps to properly cleaning clothing. Setting the correct temperature, using the right suds, and washing with a great amount of thoroughness is essential. Of all three, washing is the one to be highlighted in this post.
Clothing that is washed improperly can be super infectious. This is because a bacterium (one that is alive) can absorb molecules from a dead one through a process known as uptake. The live bacterium, normally safe, is now filled with the infectious molecules of the dead bacterium. An infection can occur then from repeatedly wearing dirty clothing. The best way to remove it is to wash thoroughly to remove all traces of bacteria.
It's kind of like two brothers. Even if one brother has moved away, the other might have "absorbed" his habits.
bacteria stick close like two brothers.

The actual process is similar to phagocytosis. But this is one way to visualize what's happening. Molecules that released from the dead bacteria after being "cleaned" are sent to the live one.
In reality, this might also be why reheating food hardly gets rid of all of the harmful bacteria. There might some dangerous, "dead" bacteria left that mingle with live ones in the body.
A washed car is an optimal performing one. In the same way, a properly, thoroughly washed of laundry is preferable.
